The Secret to Weight Loss Isn’t So Secret!

Summer is around the corner and for some people that means thinking about how to shed those extra pounds to look good pool side. Many people make the mistake of getting on a “fad diet” or a quick weight loss program that can include appetite suppressants or synthetic stimulants to speed up their metabolism. The sad truth is that these short-cuts place a huge burden on the body and can do more harm than good. Our bodies are already placed under great pressure just by our hectic lifestyle and bad food choices, so forcing it to process suppressants or stimulants is not the solution. This places a huge amount of stress on our internal organs, especially our digestive system, liver, kidneys, and gall bladder. These are the body’s method of elimination and when they’re overwhelmed, toxins build and can re-enter our circulation, creating inflammation and overall imbalance. This all translates to symptoms such as slower metabolism, weight gain, chronic fatigue, hormonal imbalance, sleep disturbance, lack of concentration, and the list goes on and on. In order to have success in any weight loss attempt there has to be balance between nutrient acquisition/absorption and elimination of waste. This is why a great way to start losing weight is by starting a Detox program.

A Detox program should be gentle, support nutrient acquisition/absorption, and facilitate elimination of toxins. It should not tax the body or place extra burden on an already struggling system by containing additives, preservatives, or chemicals. It should include:

  1. Structured meal plan that is nutrient dense, natural, free of genetically modified organisms (GMO’s), and unprocessed; in other words REAL FOOD.
  2. All-natural supplements to support the lymphatic system, kidneys, liver, gall bladder, and colon.
  3. Digestive and Immune system support through digestive enzymes, probiotics and proteases.

As toxins are pulled out of tissue and fat stores, they spill into circulation to be transported to the eliminating organs. If these organs are sluggish or congested then you will create a bigger problem. This is why a Detox program should be gentle and layered so as to not place the system into more stress. As the body begins acquiring nutrients and absorbing them properly while eliminating waste, you will begin to feel more energetic, sleep better, be able to concentrate, relieve muscle/joint pain, and of course lose weight naturally! Many times difficulty losing weight has to do more with a hormonal imbalance stemming from a toxic system as opposed to eating too many calories. Ultimately weight loss is about eating real food, absorbing nutrients so cells can make energy, and eliminating waste. This all is facilitated and given a jump start by a Detox program.

I always tell my patients there is no quick fix or a magic pill and the miracle weight loss drug does not exist. If we want to take the fast route we will pay the consequence in the end. Healthy eating habits go a long way, not only for weight but for life long wellness. We need to stop thinking “diet” and start thinking “lifestyle”!
